Annual Memorial Mass

November 13, 2018

liturgyThis year we witnessed a larger gathering than in past years as Members, wives and family joined us in remembering and celebrating those Brothers & family members who have gone before us to the Heavenly Banquet. The Annual Memorial Mass was celebrated by our council Chaplain Fr. Jeremias who was escorted by 5 members of the JJ Murphy Assembly 2020, with music provided by Mr. Brian Frawley and Cantor Bro. Hermann Struthmann. We recognized 3 brothers who have achieved the status of Honourary Membership (25 years continuous membership) 4 brothers achieving Honourary Life Membership (25 years continuous service and 70+ years of age) as well as 2 members who have achieved 50 years continuous service to our Order. We also acknowledged 13 members who have attained Honourary or Honourary Life memberships in past years. A wine and cheese reception for all attending was held after the Mass and presentations.

Our thanks to all who assisted and participated in this annual remembrance of our deceased Brothers or family members of our Council.

Faith ‘n’ Fellowship

In our monthly Faith ‘n’ Fellowship series thus far, we have taken the opportunity to review and discuss the Sacraments and what they mean to us. The feedback has been positive from those who have attended, but they also lament that it would be nice to see more members and guests present. Currently, we are examining Morality and Catholic Social Teachings—our role as God’s Stewards and the dignity of human life in a secular world. These interactive evenings make use of the successful series offered by the Augustine Institute called “Symbolon—The Catholic Faith Explained”.

We will not have a session in December, but starting on January 31, we’ll pick up where we left off by looking deeper into Catholic Morality in a world that no longer believes in truth. Focusing on the notion of Relativism: we will examine how, in the words of Pope Francis, “relativism wounds people” and is “the spiritual poverty of our times.”

We invite you to bring you companions and family members and join us on the last Tuesday of each month at 7:30 in the hall as Bro Al MacLeod leads us in an exploration of the series:

“Who Am I to Judge?

Responding to Relativism with Logic & Love”.

We are pleased to welcome Brother Bill French as our new Family Director!

Bro. Bill’s vast experience in municipal politics, work and volunteerism will be an asset to his new position. We look forward to his fresh ideas and projects that he has to offer. Our thanks to Bill for for accepting the position and we will assist him in his new role.

Bro. Bill will assume the Family Director position as of December 1, 2018.
